About Us

Hedgehog Hill Forest Learning Cooperative is a nature focused early learning program set on a serene two-acre woodland farm. Our living outdoor classroom features winding forest trails, open play meadows, thriving gardens, and a small menagerie of farm animals including chickens now, with goats, sheep, and pigs joining us as the seasons unfold.

Children spend their days immersed in the natural world through child-guided exploration, seasonal rhythms, animal caregiving, and joyful hands-on environmental discovery. In our intentionally small groups, we nurture deep relationships, offer individualized attention, and create a calm, connected space where learning flows from curiosity, joyful movement, and deep respect for all living things.

As a grassroots, community-driven nonprofit (501c3 status pending), Hedgehog Hill is proudly built by and for families who share a vision of raising thoughtful, nature-connected children.

Our Story

For over a decade, the vision of a true forest school has been quietly taking root in my heart, like a seed waiting for the right season to sprout. The path hasn’t been straight; it’s wound through life’s unexpected turns, teaching me the gentle arts of patience, resilience, and trusting in slow, steady growth.

In 2021, a small miracle unfolded: our family discovered a wooded property that instantly whispered possibilities, a living canvas for joyful, nature-rooted learning. Soon after, our fourth child arrived early, drawing my full attention to the sacred, unhurried rhythm of motherhood for several precious years.

As a wife and mama to four, some thriving in homeschool freedom, others embracing the structure of public school, I've built this dream hand-in-hand with our growing homestead. In our modest, single-income life, I've felt deeply the barriers many families face in finding affordable, meaningful early education. That quiet ache became a spark: to create something truly welcoming, attainable, and woven into community.

The same gentle philosophy shapes our small farm, low-cost, relationship-first, and centered on stewardship rather than expansion. Guided by Christian values of humble service, care for others, and love for creation, these principles beat at the heart of Hedgehog Hill.

We are growing Hedgehog Hill Forest Learning Cooperative as a community-supported nonprofit, built slowly, collaboratively, and with deep intention. While I pour myself into readying the land and crafting safe, playful spaces—drawing inspiration from the Norwegian tradition of friluftsliv and its embrace of open-air wonder—our long-term dream includes partnering with a kind, grounded educator to guide the children's daily adventures.

My days will focus on tending the farm, nurturing the woodland environment with child-friendly magic: tree webs for climbing dreams, winding paths that invite exploration, gardens that teach care, and open meadows for free, joyful movement.

I can't wait to open the gate to the first families, to watch little hearts connect with the living world, and to see this shared vision unfold. I trust that the right people, perfect timing, and gentle energy will gather here—and I'm filled with quiet excitement for the season ahead.
